Thank you to those who turned out for the October SPUD Patrol. Many new people contributed their time, money and supplies to support our efforts to assist the residents of Pigeon Park. We had beautiful weather and an abundance of supplies for the event. Many grateful faces thanked us for the warm food, including those who regularly come to Pigeon Park on the Saturday nearest to the Full Moon since they know we’ll be there faithfully.

We are looking for many volunteers next month for SPUD Patrol - see you there!
Thank you to the Vancouver August 2008 VOLUNTEERS!!
Our August SPUD was a success, although we were short on a few needed volunteers. Summertime tends to have a smaller volunteer turn out since folks are busy with sunshine activities, whereas towards winter we have more people show up. We had a very long line-up for spuds today and saw many grateful faces. The sun was out for the entirety of our event, which seemed to encourage our friends at Pigeon Park. We ran out of potatoes at about 1pm, but by then the line had grown a bit smaller. It’s always amazing to receive the many “God Bless You’s” from those in line! Please consider coming out next month to help out – we could use your support! Thank you! A Special Thank You goes to our Volunteers: Jude Doyle, Anthony Kuchack, Penny Ford, Bob Almas, and Shallah Ray Montaine. We are looking for many volunteers next month for SPUD Patrol - see you there!

Thank you to the Vancouver JUNE 2008 VOLUNTEERS!!
We had a glorious day for our SPUD Patrol. We were a bit small this month – we finished in a half hour! Not many volunteers were able to make it this month, but we still fed a lot of very grateful people. One man commented that he had been watching for the Full Moon, and was waiting for us to show up on Saturday because he knew we would be there. It’s hard to estimate the value something like that has for a person who’s only meal that day might just be that one potato! The impact that our volunteers have on the lives of our friends at Pigeon Park is immeasurable. The smiles we receive in return, and the “God Bless You’s” are wonderful. In fact, we receive more by serving potatoes than those who stand in line. What a blessing! Special Thanks go to: Anthony Kuschak, Jude Doyle, Bob Almas, Marina Szijarto, Jeffrey Armstrong and Sandi Graham.

Thank you to the Vancouver MAY 2008 VOLUNTEERS!!
Our SPUD Patrol in May was a sunny day with a small group of excellent volunteers. We had a line that kept us busy for an hour, and many people were happy to get back in line for a second or even third potato. We had a large pile of donated clothing that someone donated, and many grateful people went away with things that they found for themselves. Thank you to everyone who showed up to volunteer or donate food and clothing. Your support means a lot to those whom we serve at Pigeon Park. Special Thanks go to: Anthony Kuschak, Pete McCormack, Mike Wheelan, Joseph Stadel, Marina Szijarto, Joseph Forest, Sandi Graham, Jeffrey Armstrong, Shallah Ray Montaine, Jude Doyle, Penny Donovan, Feven Haile

Thank you to the Vancouver APRIL 2008 VOLUNTEERS:
Our SPUD Patrol this month was very calm. We had a small group of volunteers who kept the line running smoothly, and there were many friendly faces who showed up. The weather cooperated with us with a partly cloudy day, and it wasn't too cold. A number of people thanked us profusely with "God Bless You's" and showed their appreciation with warm smiles and shining eyes. It's amazing how a small bit of grace in the form of a potato can open up a connection between strangers! Special Thanks go to: Pete McCormack, Samantha Reynolds, Rajinder Singh, Jude Doyle, Shallah Ray Montaine, Joe Stadel, Josh Stadel, Mike Whelan, Penny Ford.

Thank you to the Vancouver JANUARY 2008 VOLUNTEERS!!
Thank you to all of our volunteers this month. We had a lot of clothes and potatoes to give away, and had a number of new volunteers who showed up to help us out at Pigeon Park. Somehow the weather cooperated with us as well – it had been snowing in Vancouver just prior to SPUD, but during the entire hour we were out serving warm spuds to our friends in the park, it didn’t snow at all! We are thankful to the weather devas. Special Thanks go to: Pete McCormack, Samantha Reynolds, Bob Almas, Jude Doyle, Paul Sangha, Tessa Lloyd, Penny Ford, Patricia Sky, Raginder Singh, Dave Hamilton, Luke Hamilton, Sandi Graham and Jeffrey Armstrong.

Thank you to the Vancouver DECEMBER 2007 VOLUNTEERS:
We had a really “fun” SPUD this December. All of our cheery volunteers showed up with reindeer antlers on in honor of the season, and our friends in Pigeon Park were very glad to receive all of the warm SPUDs, hot apple cider, chocolates, homemade chocolate chip cookies, fruit cake and other goodies. We had no fights in line, and smiles all around so it was one of the most pleasant SPUD Patrols we’ve ever had! We also had a very dear man in line whom you just wanted to take home with you – so happy and grateful that we were there. He had big rosy cheeks and a big smile, and was a tender little guy. Broke our hearts. Thank you to everyone who showed up and brought clothing, smiles, extra food, and of course, all of those wonderful SPUDS! Special Thanks go to: Michelle Hall, Jude Doyle, Jeffrey Armstrong, Sandi Graham, Pete McCormack, Samantha Reynolds, Penny Ford, Bob Almas, Anthony Kuschak, Rhiannon, Zoltan Toth and Mike Wheldon.

Thank you to the Vancouver NOVEMBER 2007 VOLUNTEERS:
November’s SPUD Patrol was a huge success, thanks in large part to our regular volunteers – who were supported this month by ten new UBC volunteers. We were joined by a fresh crowd of faces from the UBC dorm advisors group, and they all were very glad to receive their posts at the tables. They did a great job! They brought 100 pounds of potatoes along with all of the fixings, and we appreciated their enthusiasm and smiles. We had a DUDS table set up by one of the volunteers, with many warm articles of clothing that were gratefully accepted. Special Thanks go to: Jeffrey Armstrong, Sandi Graham, Pete McCormack, Samantha Reynolds, Bob Almas, Luke Hamilton, Dave Hamilton, Jude Doyle, Penny Ford, Sue Chambers, and our 10 New Volunteers from UBC!

Thank you to the Vancouver OCTOBER 2007 VOLUNTEERS:
We’d like to say a special thank you to the community for all of the clothing that was donated this month for our SPUDS & DUDS table – many people went home with warm sweaters, coats, shirts and socks. Now that the weather is turning colder, the needs on the streets increase, so your donations are a welcomed addition to our SPUD event. Our SPUD this month went very well. We had weather that cooperated with us, and lots of hungry folks. The lineup went fairly smoothly, and we made a lot of new friends. Pigeon Park knows us each month, and very often we seem the same grateful people each month. For sure, our potatoes are a favorite! Thank you to all of our Volunteers! Special Thanks go to: Jerry Rector, Dave Hillman, Luke Hillman, Bob Almas, Kerri Serwetnek, Julia Frittaion, Penny Ford, Samantha Reynolds, Michelle Hall, Jude Doyle, Sarala Thompson, Pete McCormack, Jeffrey Armstrong & Sandi Graham.

Thank you to the Vancouver SEPTEMBER 2007 VOLUNTEERS:
Our September SPUD was a bit rough – we lucked out with no rain despite a cloudy day, but we could really see the toll that drugs take on the population at Pigeon Park. A number of people were shooting up right next to our table, or were in line with their needles and pipes. To say the least, many of them were quite hungry and grateful for a warm meal. We heard many “God Bless You’s” today, along with another comment of gratitude from a person who happened to walk by our tables – he told us, “You are doing a great job!” We had two large bags of clothing to give away, which found good homes. And just when we started to run out of potatoes, another volunteer showed up with more supplies – to save the day! Thank you to everyone who came out to volunteer or who supplied sour cream and cheese even though they couldn’t personally be there! Special Thanks to: Bob Almas, Penny Ford, Joe Stadel, Nicole LeFleche, Sue Chambers, Jude Doyle, Jeffrey Armstrong, Sandi Graham, Luke Hamilton and Dave Hamilton. Thank you to Pete McCormack and Samantha Reynolds for providing extra supplies!

Thank you to the Vancouver JULY 2007 VOLUNTEERS:
Our July SPUD was quite small, but successful nonetheless. We only had about 60 pounds of potatoes to give away this month, but many of the volunteers brought extra sour cream, chives, cheese and butter. The good news was that we did not run out of supplies! We welcomed several new volunteers this month, and had several bags of clothing to give away, which were received with thanks from many of our grateful friends at Pigeon Park. Special Thanks go to: Jude Doyle, Umberto Assandri, Pete McCormack, Samantha Reynolds, Irene Assandri, Sue Chambers, Mary Etey, Jacque Lalonde, Dudo Solic, Jeffrey Armstrong & Sandi Graham.

Thank you to the Vancouver JUNE 2007 VOLUNTEERS:
What a gorgeous day for SPUD Patrol! It was a fast day, with potatoes running out after about 500, or so, being served. We had an out of town guest from San Diego joining us this time, Jen Cohen. Thanks for being there to all of our new volunteers! Our weather was perfect, and we were kept hopping by the many hungry folks in line. We also had a large bag of clothes donated for our DUDS table. Thank you also to the people who made donations to buy supplies for this month. We appreciate your support! Thank you to the Vancouver JANUARY 2007 VOLUNTEERS:
Well, it was a cold one, folks! We had a very large turnout this month, with an extra box of potatoes left over after an hour and a half – 26 volunteers, and countless numbers of devas in line. Thank you to every one who brought extra supplies and turned out for this SPUD – as the cold months hang in there, it becomes even harder to survive on the streets, so thanks for coming out and supporting us! We fed a lot of very grateful, cold devas out at Pigeon Park. The minute we thought we were running out of supplies, another volunteer would show up with more! We had one woman in line ask us which church we were affiliated with. When we said that we weren’t with any church, we were just people who cared – she thanked us and said that many times they have to sit through a church service and listen to a sermon in order to get a warm meal to eat. She was very grateful that she didn’t have to do anything except stand in line to receive some food. It was very touching to listen to her story. We also had a lot of warm clothes donated for our Deva friends at Pigeon Park. Many people brought warm sweaters, blankets and pillows. We even had a SPUD volunteer reach into her backpack and give a cold Deva her extra pair of socks! He was extremely grateful. In addition, we had a SPUD volunteer become so inspired that she decided to start another SPUD Patrol on the New Moon, so Vancouver is going to have two SPUD Patrols now - one nearest to the Full Moon and one nearest to the New Moon. What an inspiration! Special Thanks go to: Jeffrey Armstrong, Sandi Graham, Sue Chambers, Sarala Thompson, Amanda Lewis, Carol & Art Bomke, Heather & Ron Loftus, Fred Wu, Lynn & Bob Macdonald, Sam Macdonald, Kati Alexandra, Shaughnessy Sturdy, Joe Stadel, Luke Hillman, David Hillman, Shallah Ray Montaine, Bob Almas, Richard & Francesca Plaster, Rajinder Pendakur, Samantha Reynolds, Pete McCormack, and especially Phyllis Hansen at Shared Vision for the FREE Ad! We had several new people come due to the ad – thanks Phyllis!
